Belfer Center experts weigh Mikhail Gorbachev’s legacy
Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, who is known for ending the Cold War, presiding over the dissolution of the Soviet Union, and changing the map of Europe, died on August 30 at the age of 91. Scholars based at the Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs—some of whom knew Gorbachev from his days in power—share their views on Gorbachev and his impact on the former Soviet Union and the world as the East Bloc broke up and broke free.
