In recent years, the HKS Library has hired new staff and launched several initiatives to provide comprehensive support throughout the research lifecycle to all members of the HKS community. Now, we are eager to hear from students what is still missing from your experiences doing research and working with data at HKS! Christian Testa is a statistical analyst and programmer focused on modeling health outcomes and characterizing health inequalities. He works on the Public Health Disparities Geocoding Project 2.0, which expands on trailblazing work from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health to use geocoding and area-based socioeconomic measures to better inform efforts to address health inequities in the U.S., including along racial lines. The latest project work features a publicly available training manual for using Census data to perform geographic health disparity analysis in R.

Felix Owusu is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Program in Criminal Justice Policy and Management at the Malcolm Wiener Center for Social Policy at Harvard Kennedy School. His research explores inequality, race, and public policy with a focus on the criminal legal system. At this session of Data + Donuts, Felix will balance the value of transparent and high-quality data on what public safety institutions do with the limitations of using administrative data alone to understand people’s lived experiences.
