INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS & SECURITY
A way forward in Gaza and Israel?
Since the Hamas terror attack in southern Israel on October 7, international security and foreign policy experts at Harvard Kennedy School have held many discussions to consider core issues and policy choices. Several events have been organized by the Middle East Initiative (MEI) at the School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. One recent recorded event was titled “Israel and Gaza: Is there a way out of the crisis?” Introducing the event, Professor Meghan O’Sullivan, the Belfer Center director, recalled the choices the U.S. government made after the terror attacks of September 11, 2001. HKS Professor Tarek Masoud, faculty chair of the MEI, then led four Middle East specialists in weighing what paths the Israel-Gaza conflict may take—and what might follow, militarily and politically—and what role Arab countries might play. Participating were former U.S. diplomat Edward Djerejian, now an MEI senior fellow; Brandeis University Professor Shai Feldman; Palestinian pollster Professor Khalil Shikaki; and Egyptian researcher Abdel Monem Said Aly. |
