Dear subscriber,
This year Building State Capability (BSC) celebrated its 10-year anniversary. It seems like yesterday when we were thinking about a name for our team and discussing why we should use the word capability and not capacity.
In the past decade, we have been committed to equipping practitioners on the ground with tools to better improve the implementation of their policies and programs. We have trained and directly engaged practitioners in 148 countries through executive education and policy engagements with governments. In an effort to expand our reach and make our tools more practical and accessible, we recorded short video guides to explain the concepts of our PDIA approach, developed a DIY Toolkit, published papers showcasing how PDIA works in practice, shared learning journey blogs written by practitioners, created a timely Leadership in Crisis series, held both in-person and virtual events, recorded podcasts, translated our materials, and launched this newsletter. Our Building State Capability: Evidence, Analysis, Action book, published by Oxford University Press, is also available as a downloadable pdf.
We are a small but mighty team that is committed, hard-working, flexible, fearless, and mission driven. BSC could not achieve the above results without the heroic efforts of our team and for that we remain deeply grateful.
In this issue we highlight some of our papers, blogs, podcasts and events from 2022. We hope you enjoy reading through our newsletter and best wishes for 2023!
