Zotero & Intro to Library Research

Zotero is a free software tool that can automatically format citations and bibliographies, help you keep all your research in one place, and allow you to collaborate with others on research projects. We are offering three upcoming sessions to help you get started using Zotero. These sessions are open to all HKS affiliates.
 

Join an upcoming Intro to Library Research session to learn how to make the most out of HKS and Harvard Library resources in your coursework and research projects. We'll cover using popular databases, finding books and articles in HOLLIS, and accessing specialized research services throughout the Harvard Library system. These sessions are open to all HKS affiliates.
 

Library + IT Q&A Drop-Ins

The HKS Library and Information Technology (IT) are joining forces to make sure you have what you need to start the semester right! We'll be in the Sunshine Lobby to help you install Zotero, set up online access to news sources, and enable printing from your own device. We can also answer any questions, and give you plenty of candy and swag.

Volunteer with Software Carpentry

On August 18 and 19, the HKS Library is hosting Software Carpentry - a workshop that will give participants the foundational knowledge to pursue data-intensive research with confidence.

And we need your Help! Helpers are critical to the Carpentry workshop. They assist learners who have encountered difficulties (often simple errors like typos or installation troubles), enabling the Instructors to continue with the broader lesson. It's useful for Helpers to know a little about programming, but not necessary. We ask that Helpers commit to at least a half-day of the two-day workshop.

Data + Donuts

Back for its ninth semester (!), Data + Donuts is a learning and discussion group that offers a welcoming space to engage critically with issues of data and society. Every few weeks during the academic year, we invite researchers and practitioners to facilitate conversations around their area of expertise. Our first two events of the semester are now open for registration.

Programming + Pizza

In its inaugural semester (!!), Programming + Pizza is a peer-to-peer mentoring group where those interested in programming tools and computational research can build skills and community. Every event highlights one interesting coding project, but attendees are free to work on whatever they like - including pizza! Save the date for our first event of the semester, and register for the second.

August Book Display

Our August book display is up in the HKS Library! We're observing three holidays:

• August 2: James Baldwin's Birthday
• August 9: International Day of the World's Indigenous People
• August 23: International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade & its Abolition
