Once you become an HKS alum, you can still visit Harvard Libraries, borrow physical materials, access select digital resources, and meet with HKS librarians. For details, explore our guide to library resources for HKS alumni, which also recommends free research resources and strategies to use after you graduate.

Plus, we're teaming up with HKSIT on two information sessions (details below) to walk you through some important pre-graduation steps like:

This workshop will introduce some of the basic concepts of textual analysis. We will practice using R for some foundational tasks on a text corpus like word counts, term frequency, and removing stopwords. Depending on interest and time, we can also look at some platforms for text analysis that HKS and Harvard affiliates can use to access specific text sources like newspapers and magazines.

Meet Jimmy Kane: Student Wellbeing, Health, & Support 😺

Jimmy Kane (he/him/his) is the inaugural Senior Associate Director of Student Support Services in Degree Programs and Student Affairs. As a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Jimmy can be a primary resource for supporting students' academic, personal, and mental wellbeing.

New Book Display: Arab American Heritage Month 📚

The HKS Library's April book display celebrates Arab American Heritage Month. Launched in 2017 by the Arab America Foundation, the month celebrates the Arab American community's rich heritage and significant contributions to U.S. society.

The Arab America Foundation traces its roots to Kahlil Gibran, the celebrated Lebanese-American writer, poet, and philosopher who a century ago helped to create a collective of Arab American writers and scholars known as the Mahjari. The books in this display pay homage to this literary tradition, featuring works by Mahjari and contemporary Arab American writers and scholars.

Honoring Mel King through Political Buttons 🏙️

The HKS Library pays tribute to Mel King -- prominent community organizer, local politician, and lifelong Boston resident who recently passed away at 94 years old. We are honored to steward several buttons created during his campaign for Mayor of Boston in the early 1980s as part of our Political Buttons Collection.

Before becoming the first Black person to run in a final election bid for Mayor of Boston, King served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives for 10 years. He began his community work organizing for the creation of programs and institutions serving low-income residents and residents of color. King also organized against urban renewal projects that demolished housing in the South End, including the highway that instead became Southwest Corridor Park and the parking garage that instead became 269 units of mixed-income housing.

We hope the buttons preserved in our collection will help illuminate the political history of Greater Boston, including the legacies of community leaders like Mel King.
