HKS Library Newsletter June @ HKS Library The exciting thrum of Harvard's Commencement activities has died down, but we're still so proud of all the recent HKS graduates! Huge congratulations on your enormous accomplishment. To rising second-year students, the incoming cohorts, and our fantastic faculty and staff community: we're wishing you a very restful summer. In this newsletter you'll find: HKS Library Closed for Renovations: Starting this Friday, only virtual services are available until July 6. Library Resources for HKS Alumni: Get help from librarians, limited digital access, and more. New Book Display: LGBTQ Pride Month. temporary Library Closure HKS Library closed for renovations June 13 - July 6 Pick up any requested books before Wednesday, June 11. Virtual services still available. Community Commons will remain open. Between Friday, June 13th and Sunday, July 6th, the HKS Library will be closed for renovations. The Community Commons (left of the main library entrance) will remain open. We will be making changes to enable more library staff to work in the library instead of in our back offices, ensuring we are more accessible to HKS community members. The amount of study space will not be reduced. During and leading up to the renovation, in-person services will be limited. See below for details, including a timeline and action items. During the renovation, you can still: Email and meet virtually with a librarian, Mon-Fri 9AM-5PM. Schedule a virtual appointment.  Return books and other library materials via the bookdrop at the HKS Library’s entrance, or to any other Harvard library.  Request offsite (not onsite) HKS library materials for pickup at other Harvard libraries.  Enter the Community Commons. Computers, printers, and scanners will remain available in this space. You can still check out items from the Diversity, Inclusion, & Belonging (DIB) Collection and the Children’s Book Collection using the self-checkout machine, and use items from the Board Game Collection. You will not be able to: Enter the HKS Library.  Check out physical materials from the HKS Library, including books and technology (e.g., laptop chargers).  Request onsite HKS Library materials for pickup at other Harvard libraries.  Request material from other Harvard libraries for pickup at the HKS Library.  Key dates: Monday, June 9: You can no longer request library materials via HOLLIS or Interlibrary Loan (ILL) for pickup at the HKS Library. You can still check out library materials in person, including technology like chargers and calculators.  Wednesday, June 11: You can no longer request onsite HKS Library materials for pickup at other Harvard Libraries. Books on our hold shelf will also be cleared. If the hold was placed 14+ days prior, the book will be reshelved. If the hold was placed more recently than that, the book will be sent to Widener Library where you can still pick it up. Please retrieve any requested books before Wednesday, June 11.  Friday, June 13: HKS Library closes for renovations. Community Commons remains open.  Monday, July 7: HKS Library plans to reopen with summer hours.  Email library_research@hks.harvard.edu with any questions or concerns. Library Resources for HKS Alumni Help from librarians, limited digital access, and more After graduation, your access to many of Harvard's technological systems will expire. You may have already lost access to some resources, while others will remain active for a year from Commencement. Make sure to start backing up your resources now, including emails and files. The good news is that many library resources remain available to you as an alum. These include: Help from librarians, including virtual appointments. Limited access to digital resources like select journals and databases. Access to all Harvard libraries, including for events. Ability to borrow print books. Alumni Library Resource Details New Book Display: LGBTQ Pride Month LGBTQ Pride month is an annual celebration of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community. The original Pride organizers chose June to pay homage to the Stonewall Uprising of June 1969 in New York City, which sparked the modern US LGBTQ movement. Today, LGBTQ Pride Month is federally recognized and observed nationwide. In this display, you'll find books exploring LGBTQ identities, experiences, politics, history, and more.  Explore the display Acknowledgment of Land and People Harvard University is located on the traditional and ancestral land of the Massachusett, the original inhabitants of what is now known as Boston and Cambridge.
