Identifying how civic institutions and organizations can better serve the public good is at the heart of CPL's mission. We are grateful to be rooted in the history of the Hauser Institute for Civil Society, which merged with CPL in 2014. The Hauser Institute's legacy lives on through the work of CPL's vibrant community of scholars and educators, leaders in practice, students, and alumni dedicated to enhancing the capacity for principled, effective leadership within the voluntary sector.
Below you will find profiles of three fall courses taught by CPL faculty affiliates that carry on the mission of the Hauser Institute.
Arthur Brooks'
Nonprofit Management and Leadership gives students the practical skills to lead in the nonprofit sector.
Matthew Lee teaches
Strategies for Social Impact, which examines strategic frameworks and ways of organizing to pursue impact at scale.
Julie Battilana's
Power and Influence for Positive Impact reimagines the concept of power with an emphasis on equitable distribution.
Many of our CPL fellows are pursuing careers in the nonprofit sector, and you will find two of them featured below.
Keith Calix is dedicated to improving education for vulnerable communities through his work with a range of mission-driven organizations; former mayor of Topeka
Michelle De La Isla now drives scaling solutions for nonprofits as a foundation executive. Both Keith and Michelle are part of the
U.S. Latino Leadership Fellowship, and we're particularly proud to spotlight these leaders during Latinx Heritage Month.
You will also find a Q&A with Hauser Leader
Michael Lomax, a leading advocate for providing educational support and scholarships to African American students across the country. He discusses his interactions with students through the Hauser Leaders program; the collegial connections he has built at CPL; and his work with philanthropic foundations and corporations to support HBCUs.
Lastly, we are proud to promote the
Harvard Social Impact Navigator, a cross-university resource that connects the programs, centers, and people on our campus who are working to make a positive social impact. The
Social Innovation + Change Initiative, directed by Julie Battilana and housed at CPL, is a key collaborator on this project.
