September is National Library Card Signup Month! During the month, public libraries across the U.S. mark the beginning of the school year with a campaign to ensure everyone has a library card and can take full advantage of the many resources and services public libraries have to offer.
This September, the HKS Library invites you to join the Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville Public Libraries to sign up for your local library card right on the HKS campus! A card will get you free access to books, audiobooks, e-books, museum passes, and more.
Any Massachusetts resident, even a temporary one, can get a public library card. You don't have to be a resident of any particular city. Just bring a photo ID and proof of MA residency (like a piece of official mail) to one of the following events.
-
Wednesday, September 18, 11:30AM-1:30PM, Sunshine Lobby, with Somerville Public Library.
-
Tuesday, September 24, 11:30AM-1:30PM, Sunshine Lobby, with Boston Public Library.
-
Thursday, September 26, 1:00-3:00PM, Sunshine Lobby, with Cambridge Public Library.
| We're also encouraging HKS community members to send a letter of appreciation to your favorite public library, anywhere in the world. We'll pay for postage! Fill out a postcard at one of the events listed above, do the same in the HKS Library whenever we're open, or submit this online form. |

New Behind the Book with Bruce Schneier |
|
How the powerful hack the system |
Behind the Book is a video storytelling series that dives into books authored by HKS faculty. Each video distills one book's critical insights for a worldwide audience.
Our latest video features Bruce Schneier, Adjunct Lecturer in Public Policy and an internationally renowned cybersecurity expert. His latest book is A Hacker's Mind: How the Powerful Bend Society's Rules and How to Bend them Back. In it, Schneier defines "hacking" as a term that goes well beyond rogue programmers breaking into computer systems. He explores the ways society is manipulated by those seeking and exploiting loopholes. |
