Open Access Week: Open for Climate Justice (October 24 - 30) 🔓🌍

From the HMS Research Data Management Working Group: "International Open Access Week is a time to celebrate achievements in open access and learn more by hearing from practitioners and experts. While open access generally refers to publications, Open Scholarship is about making all research outputs, including data, more visible, and about sharing knowledge more widely."

This year's theme, Open for Climate Justice, encourages “connection and collaboration among the climate movement and the international open community” and is the ideal opportunity to “join together, take action, and raise awareness around how open can be a means for climate justice.”

Celebrate #OAWeek at Harvard Library with a packed lineup of events and online content, including:

Open Access, Data, and Science Events from Harvard Library
Environmental and Climate Justice Events from campus groups

Data + Donuts // Using mixed methods to study the politics of foreign aid, humanitarian responses, and refugee rights

Reva Dhingra is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Brookings Foreign Policy. At this session of Data + Donuts, Reva will talk about policy responses to immigration and displacement, access to social services by immigrants, refugees, and communities, and the data tools and methodologies she uses in her work.

RESCHEDULED: Programming + Pizza // Visualizing economic data with Metroverse & Viz Hub

Annie White (Senior Product Manager), Steven Geofrey (Front-End Software Developer), Brendan Leonard (Back-End Developer and Data Specialist), and Nil Tuzcu (UX/UI & Data Visualization Designer) make up the Development & Design Team at the HKS Growth Lab.

At this session of Programming + Pizza, Annie and her team will present on the design, development, data and product management that goes into Metroverse, their most recent economic visualization tool, along with other digital tools in their Viz Hub, including the Atlas of Economic Complexity. After their presentation, attendees will have plenty of time to work on the projects of their choice.
