Need to solve a complex problem? Collaboration is tough but worth it
Intractable problems facing cities such as homelessness and climate change can only be solved by multiple organizations collaborating across boundaries, say Harvard Kennedy School Senior Lecturer Jorrit de Jong and Harvard Business School Professor Amy Edmondson. But that’s easier said than done—bringing together government agencies, nonprofits, private businesses, academia, and the public can be a huge challenge. In a new episode of HKS PolicyCast, de Jong and Edmondson describe what the most successful cross-boundary collaborations have in common, including building a culture of safety and trust and being empowered to try, fail, and learn from mistakes. |
