DEMOCRACY & GOVERNANCE
Finding solutions to democracy’s challenges
Harvard’s 30th president, Claudine Gay, is a political scientist who has pledged to put the University’s efforts behind finding ways to shore up democracy around the globe. One of the marquee events to celebrate her inauguration last week featured scholars from the Kennedy School and elsewhere at Harvard exploring ways to counter rising challenges to democracy, including authoritarianism, nationalist-populist movements, and technology-driven misinformation. The discussion, titled “Revitalizing Democracy,” was held at the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum at Harvard Kennedy School and included HKS faculty members Archon Fung, faculty director of the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation; Danielle Allen, director of the Allen Lab for Democracy Renovation; and Yanilda González, an assistant professor of public policy. They were joined by Harvard professors Jill Lepore and Daniel Ziblatt, and by Harvard Law School Professor Guy-Uriel Charles, who served as moderator. |
